‘Thank you’ cards handmade by children at Seaton St Paul’s C of E Junior School have been gratefully received by the team in West Cumberland Hospital’s Accident & Emergency department.

The children across Years 3,4, 5 and 6 were tasked with showing a ‘random act of kindness’ and they were inspired to make thank you cards to show their appreciation to the A&E team. The cards came accompanied with a letter from the school which said the children wanted to ‘acknowledge all the great work, care and continued dedication you all give selflessly to everyone at any time’.

Dr Claire Summers, consultant in the emergency department, said: “We were delighted to receive so many lovely cards from the children at Seaton St Paul’s C of E Junior School. We are an extremely busy service and it is always great to know people appreciate the work that we do.

“The cards have really brightened up our department and we are planning to display them for others to enjoy. Thank you to the school and to the children who made the cards for such a kind gesture.”

When asked why they chose the A&E department for their ‘random act of kindness’, the children in Year 3 said:

“‘If people are feeling down, kindness can make them feel better.”

“We sent them because normally the emergency services don’t get thanked for what they do but we thought they should get a big thank you.”

“To make everyone happier.”

“We did random acts of kindness because they do them every day when they save our lives.”

“They help us so we should help them.”
