North Cumbria Health and Care System seeks your views for the future
People using health and care services in north Cumbria are being asked to share their thoughts on the priorities being planned for the next five years.
The North Cumbria Health and Care System has outlined the key priorities for the system setting out our commitments and how we will improve.
Health and care providers and commissioners are working together, and in partnership with, Cumbria County Council and the third sector and the community to improve outcomes for our local population.
Stephen Eames, lead for the North Cumbria Health and Care System said:
“We want to improve the experience and outcomes of people across north Cumbria. We know demand is increasing and we will struggle to support our staff to meet the needs of our patients if we don’t change. We are already ahead of many parts of England in the way we are working collaboratively with partners, including Cumbria County Council, to integrate our services.”
It follows the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan in January and now six priorities have been developed, taking on board the views of staff, partners and the community over the last few years.
Mr Eames added:
“We need people to look at our priorities and let us know if we’ve got it right, what we’re missing, and most importantly we need to listen to what they want to tell us about our services for the future.
“We are already working differently and this shows how we will work collaboratively so we can make things better for patients, for staff and for our community. We know demand for services is increasing and we have to work differently to meet that demand.
“We are also making sure we are joined up with the county’s new Health and Wellbeing Strategy “
Six key aims have been identified which will shape our plans for the future. They are:
- We will improve the health and care outcomes of our local communities and support people of all ages to be in control of their own health.
- We will build health and care services around our local communities.
- We will be a great place to work and develop.
- We will provide safe and sustainable high quality services.
- We will integrate how health and care and other organisations work together.
- We will live within our means and spend resources wisely.
The NHS in north Cumbria is already ahead of some other parts of the country in terms of integrating services to support staff work around the needs of the patient more easily.
Future plans include the development of the Cancer Centre and the redevelopment of the West Cumberland Hospital, as well as a focus on creating a great place to work.
